Windows 10 users can now send files to other Windows 10 users. The feature is called Nearby Sharing. To send files to fellow Windows 10 users, the two devices must be close to each other, and the version of Windows 10 used is at least version 1803 or above. And the method of sending files with this feature is using Bluetooth or Wifi.
Nearby Sharing feature settings.
To be able to send or receive files, the two laptops/PCs must have Nearby Sharing settings as follows:
1. Click the Start button, then click Settings > System > Shared experiences
2. Activate the Nearby Sharing feature.
Click the button below Nearby Sharing to enable it so that it turns blue. You can also activate it in the Action Center window. Click the Action Center icon in the far right corner of the taskbar, then click the Nearby Sharing button. The visible Bluetooth button is also active.
3. In the “I can share or receive content from” section, select who and whom we can send or receive files.
Here there are two options. Please select Everyone Nearby so that Windows 10 users near us can receive files from us or send files to us.
4. Place to save the submission file. To change the place where we save files sent from other parties, click the Change button under “Save files I receive to“. Then specify the desired storage location. If the Nearby Sharing button (step number-2) is not yet active, the Change button cannot be clicked.
Send document files to fellow Windows 10 users.
To send files to fellow Windows 10 users, follow these steps:
1. Activate the Nearby Sharing feature on both laptops (sender and receiver). Open the Action Center window in the right corner of the Windows 10 taskbar, then click the Nearby Sharing button.
2. On the sender's laptop, open File Explorer and search for the document to be sent. Right-click the document and select Share in the tab that appears. In the Nearby Sharing window, the process of searching for the intended laptop occurs. Wait until the name of the laptop/PC is shown, then click the name of the laptop/PC.
3. On the recipient's laptop, a notification will appear that the file has been sent. Just click Save & open if you want to see the file. Or just click Save if you don't want to see the received files.
Send Photos files to fellow Windows 10 users.
To send files in photos to fellow Windows 10 users, you can do the above method. But it can also be done from the Photo application, how:
1. Activate the Nearby Sharing feature on both laptops (sender and receiver). Open the Action Center window in the right corner of the Windows 10 taskbar, then click the Nearby Sharing button.
2. Open the Photo application by clicking the Start button on the taskbar in the lower-left corner. From the list of applications, find and select Photo. After the Photo application opens, please find and click the photo to be sent (You can also click the tick in the upper right corner of the photo to be sent).
3. Click the Share icon in the top right corner of the Photo app tab. Wait a moment until the name of the laptop to be sent photos appears. Then click the name of the laptop.
4. On the recipient's laptop, a notification will appear that a photo has been sent. Just click Save & open if you want to see the file. Or just click Save if you don't want to see the received files.
Submit site address (site link)
1. Activate the Nearby Sharing feature on both laptops (sender and receiver). Open the Action Center window in the right corner of the Windows 10 taskbar, then click the Nearby Sharing button.
2. On the sender's laptop, open or visit the site you want to share using the Microsoft Edge web browser.
3. Then click Settings and more (three dots icon) in the upper right corner of Microsoft Edge, then click Share. In the window that appears, select the name of the laptop to which the link will be sent.
4. On the recipient's laptop, a notification will appear, then click Open. The site address will open in the recipient's laptop browser.
Tips
We can place the Nearby Sharing button in Microsoft Edge's Toolbar (next to the address box). To do this, click Settings and more, then right-click the Share button and click Show in Toolbar. Now the Nearby Sharing button will appear on the Microsoft Edge toolbar. If you want to send a link to a site, just click the Share button. It's more concise.
